A lot of them tend to be, yeah. Like, the one where you're supposed to knock over the milk bottles is pretty notorious. Some aren't so bad, though! Or at least they aren't once you figure out what the trick is and how to work with it.
[ motions toward the waterguns ]
On these one's the aim's usually kinda off and the water pressure's really weak, but it's not super hard to adjust to it once you see what you're dealing with.
[ He's gotten that so many times in the past 24 hours, but he still goes a little pale at the suggestion. ]
Nowaynowaynoway, I'd never get involved in scary stuff like this!! I-I mean, I do work for a circus, but! It's a normal one that's probably a really long way from here!
[ He covers his ears and shakes his head. ]
We just do fun shows with animals and magic tricks and stuff, you know? Kidnapping people and making them kill each other — that stuff's totally messed up!
[ Zelos just kind of eyes the mirror, before throwing it on the bed and laying down next to it like it's on speaker phone. Hope he doesn't get motion sickness. ]
That's certainly a word for it. Shame about that monkey being the thing doing you in. Maybe pick better partners that shed less next time.
Or don't end up in the one place in the world with only one brown-haired person, I guess.
To be honest, if you hadn't seen him run out of my tent that first day, no one would have ever known he was here. So I guess I could pretend this was some kind of karmic retribution if I wanted to.
It's a moment before he answers. He's kept all of his plans close to his chest for so long that the prospect of revealing any of the things he's done or planned to do is a little unsettling.
But... it's not like it really matters now. ]
A little over half. Someone else stabbed him and I got arrested for it, like I said. And it's also true that we were always each other's only friends...
...except I stopped thinking of him that way eighteen years ago when he made me lose my father. I only ever pretended to forgive him.
That woman murdered him because I planted something on him that played into her paranoia. Two birds with one stone, once they finally arrested her instead.
He listens quietly, thankful the mirror isn't pointed at him so he can make a face about how his friend made him lose his father. ]
So you managed to engineer all that together just so she'd kill the guy? That's... I gotta admit, that's pretty impressive, even if you did end up getting arrested. Playing that many people is no small feat.
[ zelos wilder crawled so simon keyes could run. ]
That was only supposed to be the beginning, so it's disappointing that I'm not going to be able to see the whole thing through and make sure the worst of them get theirs. Even if I got the ball rolling, the system's too fucked for me to trust that any of it'll work out without more intervention.
To be fair, I didn't think there was that much of a risk. In a normal legal system, that so-called evidence wouldn't have been enough to pin anything on me. All they even proved was that an animal with brown fur could have potentially been involved in making some footprints near where someone died.
They offered something that had been taken from me that I had no other way of getting back. If they were somehow telling the truth about that, then great. And if not, there'd be one less person I'd have to worry about killing me.
[ Zelos thinks about making a joke that by that logic, what they offered would've gone to Money, not him, but he decides it's probably not worth it. ]
That's the smart way to look at it, at least. Two birds with one stone.
[ There's a small, contemplative noise that comes from his side of the mirror, and what sounds like a shifting of the bed, as moves to a sitting position. ]
Not that it makes that much of difference, anymore.
week 0, sunday
...But he's more alert than he looks, and as soon as he hears someone approaching, he quickly turns around and puts on a smile. ]
O-oh, hey. Looking for a game that isn't rigged?

They're normally built to be rigged, right? House always wins and all that?

That makes sense. At least it doesn't look like paying for it is gonna be a problem here.
[ He leans against the side of the booth, crossing his arms. ]
Seems like you know a lot about this kind of place. You sure you don't actually work here?
[ He's joking, honest. But Simon definitely looks the part, at least with that monkey running around the place. ]

Easy, it was a joke. I doubt you'd be able to handle that kind of thing without passing out.
[ h-haha.............. anyway.... ]
Your monkey looks like he runs most of the operation anyway. [ pause to look around ] Where is that thing, anyway?

[ sigh...... ]
Um... he ran off ahead of me, but he should be around here somewhere. Probably wherever the shiniest prizes are.

Well, that was some bullshit, huh?

[ Simon mentions that he basically saved Money, and he can't help but laugh at that. ]
It wouldn't surprise me if it was, at this point. Though maybe you should thanking me, since it helped with your whole nervous bit you had going on.
no subject
Yeah, that's fair. It's amazing how little people will think you're capable of if they see you getting pushed around by an animal.
Most of them were more interested in him than in me anyway.
no subject
Most people don't really look too hard past what you show them. So that's not that surprising.
[ He pauses for a second. ]
How much of what you were talking about true? About that friend of yours and getting arrested?

Must've been pretty important to go for it, if you were willing to risk tossing all that hard work out the window.

[ He's going the opposite route and getting more comfortable, lying back against his pillow with his arm behind his head. ]
If I had to choose between getting murdered and getting executed, though, I'd choose this. At least I wasn't anyone's prey.
