To be fair, I didn't think there was that much of a risk. In a normal legal system, that so-called evidence wouldn't have been enough to pin anything on me. All they even proved was that an animal with brown fur could have potentially been involved in making some footprints near where someone died.
They offered something that had been taken from me that I had no other way of getting back. If they were somehow telling the truth about that, then great. And if not, there'd be one less person I'd have to worry about killing me.
