[ it's a new week, and thankfully there are now more ways to entertain a problematic monkey! while simon is busy drowning in his own nervous energy, at least money's getting to expend his on the playground.
right now, simon's just sitting on a bench with his phone, looking through the network and at all the profiles and starting to quietly panic about the whole team thing, while money makes the monkey bars literal. ]
[ welcome to sears!! simon's up in the clothes section because even if they have a laundromat now he really needs more than two outfits and a tie-dye shirt. the men's section is kind of sad and lame compared to all the adorable dresses on the women's side, but there are some nice cardigans...? ]
[Amelia's also checking out the clothes! In fact, she's got a new outfit she's sporting as she looks around. When she spots Simon, she gives him a wave and bounds over to greet him.]
Hi, Simon! Are you looking for something new to wear?
[Amelia's at the warehouse, sitting on the couch there. She sets her phone to the side and seems to be fairly calm, but well, as bummed out as anyone should be to learn that two cool ladies are dead.]
I'm not sure what I should have expected, but it still feels like kind of a shock...
[Hey Simon, you enjoying the new areas? So is Amelia, but unfortunately, there are pigs and it's mem time.]
MEMORY: INTRODUCTIONS
"His Highness! His Highness has returned!"
Hearing those voices from inside the temple, you run outside and bound excitedly down the great steps to greet your father, your slightly-oversized robes dragging a little as you run to embrace him.
"Oh, Amelia! I'm so glad you're well!" he cries, opening his arms to you.
"'Course I am! And I knew you were okay too, Dad!" you answer as you throw your arms around him.
"Now," he asks dotingly, "are you telling me that you knew all along I was safe?"
"I sure am. Know why? 'Cause justice always wins in the end."
He introduces you to two visitors as his new allies, and you're all smiles as you exchange introductions with them. But then you look up, and your tone suddenly turns serious.
"Oh!" you exclaim. "Looks like Uncle's here to welcome you too."
Three figures emerge from the entrance to the temple. They descend the wide steps and approach you. You recognize them all, of course: your uncle Christopher, his son Alfred, and Kanzeil, a (really freaking suspicious) court sorcerer.
"Brother," Christopher practically oozes at your father, his arms outstretched. "You're safe?"
A bitter look hardens over your father's face. "Of course I am."
An awkward moment passes, in which Christopher, realizing his brother doesn't want a hug from him, begrudgingly lowers his arms. "Where of all places have you been? I was worried sick about you." He then turns to see the guests you only just acquainted yourself with. "And the two you've brought with you?"
No matter how long they keep up the niceties, there's no getting around it: you know that Christopher intends to cast suspicion on your father's new allies.
"Oh, you mean these guys?" You chime in. "They're old friends of Father's." It's a bald-faced lie -- and one that you know your uncle wouldn't dare challenge, considering he's used it himself.
A flat, stammered, "I see..." is all Christopher comes up with for a response.
Your father proceeds to introduce the two strangers: Lina Inverse and Gourry Gabriev. Kanzeil seems to react to the former's name -- perhaps as a fellow sorcerer. It then comes time for your family to introduce themselves...
"Let me, Father," you suddenly cut in. You turn to the visitors and make a grand sweep of an arm, and declare, "This is Christopher, my beloved uncle!"
At this, Christopher looks pained. Or maybe contipated.
"And this is my cousin Alfred," you continue cheerfully. "And that's my uncle's old friend, Kanzeil. Things in the Royal Palace started getting messy right after he was invited in, but I'm sure that was just an unfortunate coincidence!"
Your remarks are loud enough for the gathered soldiers to get an earful. It seems plenty of them are already aware of the ongoing drama, however, as several of them look openly uncomfortable and a few more give Christopher the old stinkeye.
"Well, I'm just glad you're safe," Christopher murmurs to your father. "If you'll excuse us, we'll take our leave."
[ me like wow i hope she never called that cousin alfie or else the name simon gave his rat is going to be kind of awkward
anyway, he's like. huh. not the kind of drama he actually pictured going on in her life, which he thought would be more adventure and evil-fighting. also kind of impressed by how passive aggressively she handled that... ]
W-wow... I guess all the court intrigue and everything that you hear about in stories is real, huh?
[Yeah, she's on the couch! She's lying down and staring up at the ceiling, but when Simon comes over, she sits up to take the water. And the duckling! It can sit on her lap.]
[ sometime after the trial, simon will be back in the warehouse in front of the rat tank, reaching in to give them little head scritches. he'll look over to amelia when he hears her come in and give her a tired smile. ]
[ he cannot emphasize enough how much she is not actually summoning him so it's probably going to be like half an hour until he happens to physically wander over in this direction, hopefully she is still trying her pin every so often by then???? ]
